The commemorative plaque of Prinz Rudolf is back!
When we decided to name our Smarthotel Prinz Rudolf, it was decisive that the Crown Prince of the Austrian Empire often stayed in our area during his youth.

A special episode took place in 1871, when on a dark and cold night, the young prince got lost on the steep rocks directly below our hotel. A few hours after the accident, the wife of our neighboring farmer Kiendlhof noticed his cries for help and rescue the young heir. The father, Emperor Franz Josef I, only learned of this incident a few years later and presented himself to the farmer's wife with a valuable jewel to thank her.

For over 100 years, on the rocks on which the young prince was desperately waiting to be rescued, at the beginning of the hiking trail connecting Prinz Rudolf with Labers Castle and the city of Merano, there is a commemorative plaque.
At the end of the summer of 2018, however, there was a landslide involving both the rocks and the memorial plaque. Miraculously, the plaque survived the fall without serious damage.

A few days ago the memorial table was meticulously restored and rearranged in its place, directly under our hotel. For this, we are deeply grateful to the members of the Heimatpflegeverein. We look forward to seeing you, dear volunteers of this important association in Merano, in the new Prinz Rudolf Smarthotel. The first dinner is on us!
