The adventure, then, is not over! It will start again with enthusiasm and new energy with the third generation of this family that has been involved in the catering industry for more than 60 years, with the main objective of satisfying the needs of its customers.

Since 1950 the then little girl grandmother Elsa, together with her uncles and grandmother Viktoria, started in her beloved Val di Fassa with the opening of the newly built refuges "Principe" and "Forcella Pordoi", and then went down to the valley and, together with her sister Elda first and then with her husband Romano, launched and managed the hotels "Villa Kofler" and "Alpi" in Campitello di Fassa until the end of the sixties. 

In 1971 Elsa and Romano began their adventure in Merano by purchasing the then Gasthaus Eremita - Einsiedler which, thanks to their sacrifices, has grown in 30 years in terms of quality and accommodation capacity. In fact, it has gone from shared bathrooms in the corridors to having all the rooms with private bathrooms, almost doubling the number of beds; new rooms, swimming pools and one of the first tennis courts in a Merano hotel have been built.

This is how it is today, where the generational change with Diego, Grazia and Rosetta and the construction of the adjoining campsite have created the conditions to undertake this new investment designed by architect Manuel, the first nephew of the third generation.

Diego and Grazia's three daughters - Martina, Beatrice and Eugenia - born and raised at the Eremita, are also thrilled to be able to begin this new experience, grateful to those who have managed, over a lifetime, to create the conditions for a future full of hopes and challenges.

Smarthotel Prinz Rudolf

The name is inspired by the event that saw the Crown Prince son of Sissy and Franz Josef get lost in these woods during an excursion with his father. It is a work that in July 2020 will present itself to its clients with a project at the avant-garde of design and innovative in its conception.

There will be a slight nostalgia for the house where many happy hours have been spent with guests, but even more exciting is the wait for the new Smart Hotel! 
The modern Prinz Rudolf Smarthotel awaits you, among other things, with new cosy, state-of-the-art rooms, a unique gastronomic area, two elegant saunas and a fantastic rooftop infinity pool with an incredible panoramic view of Merano and surroundings!
